Hydrolysis is a process of breaking down proteins into simpler molecular structures, peptides, composed of small amino acid chains, which are highly digestible and bioavailable very quickly. The product also contains the digestive enzymes lactase and bromelain, and is supplemented by probiotic micro-organisms that promote the balance of intestinal flora. What is hydrolysed whey protein isolate? Hydrolysed whey protein isolate is obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis, a process that preserves important components that would otherwise be inactivated by other techniques (using acids or heat) and improves taste compared to other processes. The result is a protein powder consisting of free amino acids and di-tripeptides (chains consisting of only 2 or 3 amino acids), which are able to pass through the intestinal mucosa faster than even the free amino acids themselves. Basically, they are a kind of mixture of predigested proteins, i.e. molecules in which the digestion work normally carried out by the gastric enzymes in our stomachs has already been done.
