Lipoic 300 – Acido Alfa-lipoico is an alpha-lipoic acid supplement produced by a solvent-free method that guarantees a high degree of purity. Contains no allergens, gluten, colourants or sugars.

Alpha-lipoic acid is a vitamin-like, fat-soluble substance (hence the name lipoic acid) that containing sulfur.  It is involved in all those processes that lead to the physiological regeneration of antioxidant substances such as glutathione, vitamin C and vitamin E, so that they can again provide irreplaceable support against free radicals. As a ‘regenerator’ of antioxidant substances, alpha-lipoic acid can therefore help prevent the oxidation of LDL cholesterol and exerts a general protective action against nervous system oxidative stress.

Cell energy production also seems to be assisted by this substance as alpha-lipoic acid acts as a cofactor of the enzymes involved in the cell energy cycle. A number of past and ongoing research studies have also shown that the use of this substance could be associated with increased glucose uptake, nerve fibre growth stimulus and heavy metal chelation, processes that appear to be involved in nervous system alterations linked to incorrect absorption and use of blood sugar.

Potatoes, broccoli, spinach, red meat and offal are good sources of this precious element, which can, however, present absorption problems.  For example, we would need to eat about 50 kg of spinach to make the same amount of lipoic acid present in one 100 mg capsule available to our body. A targeted supplement could therefore be useful in supporting deficiencies that can frequently develop in the context of a normal diet.
