Alphazer - Citrulline Malate - IAFSTORE.COM
Citrulline is a non-essential amino acid that has recently been finding increasing use in the world of performance, once restricted to 'anaerobic' activities or the world of body building, but now rapidly gaining popularity in the world of endurance training due to its many proven benefits.

Citrulline performs important functions in the body as a key intermediate in the urea cycle, where it removes redundant amino groups. The urea cycle is a cycle of biochemical reactions that produces urea from ammonia, which is 'toxic' to the body and whose accumulation hinders the formation of muscle glycogen and promotes fatigue. This is why urea production, boosted by the introduction of Citrulline, is essential for the elimination of these toxic substances which pollute the performance of athletes, whether anaerobic or aerobic, leading to a massive production of ammonia.

But another powerful feature of Citrulline is its effect on vasodilation, which is very useful for any athlete. Once taken, citrulline is converted to L-arginine, which produces nitric oxide (NO), a powerful molecule that dilates blood vessels to allow working muscles to receive more oxygen and nutrients while removing metabolic waste products. So this action on blood flow translates into improved performance and recovery in more ways than one, and does so better, more efficiently and more sustainably than L-arginine itself as a direct precursor to nitric oxide which encounters strong enzymatic degradation by arginases.

Why is Citrulline Malate superior to simple L-Citrulline? Citrulline Malate combines the amino acid Citrulline with Malate, an organic salt, and plays an important role in numerous biochemical reactions, particularly in muscle tissue where it proves to be a superior addition to Citrulline alone, as malic acid is a major component in the tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA), the process by which the body produces energy, and this combination has been shown to result in greater efficacy in terms of vasodilation, performance and recovery from doms.

So pre-performance supplementation with L-Citrulline Malate

  • effectively supports the synthesis of l-arginine as a nitric oxide (NO) precursor on which it will have a greater effect than arginine itself taken orally, inducing powerful vasodilation which promotes the transport of oxygen- and nutrient-rich blood;

  • it promotes the removal of metabolic waste products of exercise such as ammonia and lactic acid which the body produces during training and which, by accumulating, come to affect and reduce athletic performance, increasing muscle fatigue;

  • the combination of citrulline with the malic acid salt increases energy production during exercise, promoting greater resistance to fatigue with faster recovery times.

For these reasons, supplementation with citrulline malate is increasingly recommended for athletes in all sports to promote more intense and prolonged performance, while also promoting better muscle recovery.
