What is Selenio 20?

Selenium 20 is a selenium supplement that is produced in accordance with high quality standards, with organic rice flour as the only excipient. Contains yeast.

Use and mechanism of action

The importance of selenium in the diet has been studied since 1979, on occasion of the discovery of Keshan disease, a disease typical of some areas of China, characterised by cardiovascular disorders (cardiomyopathies) in childhood and in women of childbearing age.
The cause was attributed to the selenium-deficient soil in those areas. The importance of selenium in the diet was later studied by the WHO (World Health Organization – 1996).
Selenium is an essential trace mineral that is needed by the body in small amounts. Its main characteristic is that it is incorporated into the structure of certain proteins, known as selenoproteins, first and foremost glutathione peroxidase, whose main function is to counteract the effect of free radicals, helping to prevent oxidative damage to cell structures, particularly to LDL-cholesterol. Selenium is also important for normal thyroid, immune system and male reproductive function and promotes healthy hair and nails.
Has a synergistic effect with vitamin E.
