Vitamin C 1000 - Dietary Supplement that comes in tablets that contain 1000 mg of Vitamin C. helps to maintain the normal functioning of the immune system. (The beneficial effect is obtained with a daily intake of 200 mg in addition to the recommended daily intake of vitamin C). Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble compound similar to glucose. Although fairly stable in acidic solution, it is normally the least stable of vitamins and is very sensitive to light, heat and air, which stimulate the activity of oxidative enzymes. One of its very important functions is to keep collagen in action, a protein necessary for the formation of connective tissue in the skin, ligaments and bones. Vitamin C plays an important role in the healing of wounds and burns because it facilitates the formation of the connective tissue of the scar. The cells of the arterial wall need collagen to expand and contract with the beats of the heart; even the capillaries need it because they are more fragile. Another important property of vitamin C is the antioxidant, which, among other things, makes it useful as a food additive. This function is performed when the vìtamìna C self-oxidizes and then regenerates the oxidized substances such as iron or copper, returning them to their original shape. During this process, the harmful oxidizing agent is removed. Vitamin E protects the iron in the intestine from oxidation. It also contributes to the formation of red blood cells and prevents bleeding. It also fights bacterial infections and reduces the effects of certain substances that cause allergies. For these reasons, vitamin C is often used in the prevention and treatment of the common cold. Vitamin C has been found to act as an antihistamine and can be used to reduce the doses of the medicinal form. Vitamin C has significant relationships with other nutrients. It contributes to the metabolism of certain amino acids such as phenylalanine and the tyrosine that ventan hormones. Vitamin C transforms the inactive forms of folic acid into an active form of folinic acid and can play a significant role in the metabolism of calcium and iron.
