Yamamoto® Research Quercetina Quercetin or quercitin is a natural antioxidant belonging to the flavonoid family, an organic compound widely distributed in the plant world and found in various foods and plants, including capers, red onions, broccoli, tomatoes, asparagus, apples, berries, grapes, citrus fruits, red wine, tea and coffee. For some time now, quercetin has been gaining increasing importance as a nutraceutical agent with interesting properties: in the plant world, polyphenols (a family to which all flavonoids belong) are compounds that are fundamental to plant physiology: they contribute to resistance to microorganisms and insects, pigmentation and organoleptic characteristics, enabling the plant to survive even in adverse conditions.
Quercetin has been the subject of several published and several ongoing studies for its wide-ranging properties and is increasingly recommended as a supplement to promote antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, helping to counteract the action of free radicals and cellular ageing, thus acting as a true natural 'anti-ageing' substance, particularly against premature skin ageing. Quercetin helps counteract the negative activity of solar radiation. These, in fact, lead to the synthesis of oxygen reactions that form free radicals, which have the ability to alter the structure of collagen and elastin synthesis by dermal fibroblasts. In fact, Quercetin helps protect against the negative effects of solar radiation and various other age-related problems. What is Quercetin Quercetin is a dietary supplement that provides 200 mg of quercetin per daily dose. A typical feature of quercetin is the presence of several phenolic groups in its chemical structure, enabling the compound to have extraordinary antioxidant power: It functions as a scavenger (scavenger) of free radicals, transforming them into compounds that are not harmful to the body; Supports the synthesis of glutathione, another antioxidant molecule; Enhances the expression of certain enzymes also with antioxidant activity, such as superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase; Inhibits the production of pro-inflammatory factors by macrophages, thus reducing the inflammatory cascade and the release of cytokines and enzymes capable of causing inflammation.
