A super-compact, ultralight pulley with fixed side plates. The Sphinx is very easy to handle and convenient to carry on a harness while ski touring or mountaineering. The attachment hole is large enough to allow full rotation of a standard locking carabiner. Self-lubricated brass bushings are perfect for light applications at low speed. Unlike other pulleys with fixed side plates, the Sphinx allows for a prusik knot to be installed on one side (aramid cord suggested) making it an ideal pulley for rigging a haul system on route or managing crevasse rescues.)

Brass Bushings vs Ball Bearings.

CAMP pulleys are notable for their superior blend of quality, performance and value. What many climbers and riggers do not realize is that the range is also very diverse with the choice of brass bushings or sealed ball bearings for nearly every model. So, which one should you choose, when and why? The decision should be made based solely on the intensity and frequency of the intended use. The difference is simple. The brass bushing is a solid ring of brass that creates a self-lubricating, smooth and uniform surface for the sheave, or wheel, to roll around. It is an excellent and economical solution that will meet the demands of most users. The singular drawback is that brass is a soft material so after repeated and intense use, it can warp and deform causing inconsistencies and inefficiencies in the action. The sealed ball bearing prevents this deformation thereby reducing wear and offers smoother action for up to 25% better hauling efficiency. Sealed ball bearings are, therefore, recommended for the most intense and frequent use.
