Technically, Omega 3 are polyunsaturated fatty acids which, from the chemical point of view, have the characteristic of having a double bond in position 3 (omega 3) or in position 6 (omega 6), of the chain that forms them. They are technically defined EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid), and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid).

These acids have precursors, that is to say substances that after the introduction into our body are transformed, specifically linoleic acid is the precursor of omega 6 fatty acid, while linolenic acid is the precursor of omega 3 fatty acid .

The omega 3 and 6 are essential fatty acids: this term means that our body is not able to synthesize them, and therefore the introduction through the diet is absolutely fundamental. The main effects are mainly related to the protection of the heart and the circulatory system, a positive aspect already highlighted by the epidemiological studies started around the 70s.
