Iron is an essential trace element that has important metabolic functions including oxygen transport and is involved in many redox reactions. An insufficient intake of iron results in conditions of anemia, difficulties in psychomotor development and in cognitive performance and in a reduced immune function. Iron is an important element essential for human health, contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells and hemoglobin, implicated in the transport of oxygen to the various body tissues. Iron supports the efficiency of energy metabolism and contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Implicated in the production of T and B lymphocytes as well as cytokines, iron helps the immune system function properly.
